Community Foundation of Collier County


The Hispanic Council Foundation, along with the Council of Hispanic Business Professionals CHBP, announced they are awarding college scholarships to high school graduates Diana Alas, and Myra Brioso, during a ceremony to be held on June 8th, 5:30 pm, at the Community Foundation of Collier County (1110 Pine Ridge Road, Suite 200. Naples, FL 34108)

The scholarships are granted to high performing Hispanic/Latina girls studying in Collier County public schools, who are interested in pursuing STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).

Diana Alas, a Honduran born, is graduating from Lely High School, and pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering with a major in Computing Science at University of Florida. Her active interest and studies in technology and computing led to her been offered a full scholarship to attend Embry Riddle Aeronautical University likewise she has recently received the NCWIT (National Center for Women & IT) Aspirations in Computing Award for South Florida.

Mayra Brioso, a Peruvian born, is graduating from Golden Gate High School, and pursuing a degree on Chemistry and Environmental Sciences at University of South Florida. Her interest in a sustainable world has been fueled by volunteer work at the Conservancy of SWFL and receiving a scholarship by the Naples Council of World Affairs to participate in the Governor’s Institutes of Vermont.

“These two girls have done an outstanding academic, community service, and leadership job through high school, and thus we want to support their College aspirations, Luis Bernal the Hispanic Council President, stated.

The Hispanic Council Scholarships have been possible thanks to community support and the enthusiasm of sponsors such as Arthrex, Cohen & Grigsby, Iberia Bank, Hodges University, NCH, Achieva Credit Union, Avow Hospice, Bond, Schoeneck & King, BB&T, Hacienda Lakes of Naples, Coastal Concrete Products, Millennium Physician Group, PNC Wealth Management, Vitas Healthcare, Vernon Litigation Group, D’Latinos, Univision SW Florida, Preferred Travel of Naples, among other community partners.
